Dr Neil Turner trained at the University of Reading, UK (BSc, Agricultural Science, 1962; DSc, Agriculture, 1983) and Adelaide University, South Australia (PhD Agronomy, 1968). Employment: Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, New Haven, USA (1967-1974); CSIRO Plant Industry, Canberra (1974-1984) and Perth (1984-2005); The University of Western Australia, Perth (2006-2007). Visiting Professor/Fellow: Aberdeen University (1973); Bayreuth University, Germany (1982); International Rice Research Institute, Los Baños, The Philippines (1983); Würzburg University (1993); Lanzhou University Lanzhou, China (2007-2023), Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University, Yangling, China (2017-2023). Research Interests: Agronomic and physiological responses of crops and trees to water deficits. Adaptation of crops to water-limited environments. Implications of climate change for crop production. Worked with a wide range of crops: wheat, oats, lupin, chickpea, maize, rice, sorghum, tobacco, cotton, soybean, sunflowers; and trees. Awards: Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy (1982), Fellow of the Crop Science Society of America (1985), Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (1992), Fellow of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology (1995), Fellow of the Indian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2003), Friendship Award, People’s Republic of China (2012), Member (AM) of the Order of Australia (2021).
