Critically-stressed reservoir stimulation direction via stress
preconditioning in horizontal EGS doublets

Abstract
In this work, it is suggested numerically that it is possible to direct
shear stimulation treatments in critically-stressed reservoirs. This
would aid in the creation of Enhanced Geothermal Systems by promoting
hydraulic connectivity in doublet-well systems. In this case, the
stimulation treatment is directed using only the poroelastic stress
changes associated with a previous stimulation treatment to precondition
the stress field. This methodology is shown for reverse, strike-slip,
and normal faulting stress regimes.
