IntroductionAmniotic fluid embolism (AFE) is an acute and unpredictable pregnancy complication, with a vital distress for the mother and fetus, occurring most often during labor or in immediate postpartum. In addition, it occurs in 2-8 per 100,000 pregnancies. Recently, it has been proposed that amniotic fluid embolism is a complement-related allergic syndrome of pregnancy that produces vasospasm, edema, and early-onset disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). It is one of the leading causes of unexpected obstetrical death. The mortality of AFE is very high, varying from 20 to 60% . Early recognition and prompt resuscitation are critical factors for the treatment of AFE. Here we report a case of amniotic fluid embolism successfully treated by multidisciplinary treatment.
