This paper presents a method that allows designing a seismic signal with any signature with particular frequency and phase characteristics and then emits it into the geological environment as a sweep using a seismic vibrator equipped with the improved controller. The method includes calculating inverse filter impulse responses from broadband VSP data and converting these impulses to equivalent sweep signals for their application during new both VSP and surface seismic surveys. We carried out first VSP, then a 3D surface seismic survey with borehole and surface sweeps thus providing a natural integration of surface and borehole seismic methods. The new, fully controlled sweep signals acquisition compensates for signal propagation through geological media and significantly improves both VSP and surface seismic results.
