The geographer and geoecologist Professor Martin Volk heads the Deprtment of Computational Landscape Ecology (co-lead)and the Working Group „Integrated Modelling and Optimization“ at the UFZ in Leipzig. He holds a professorship for Physical Gepography and Geoecology at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. His expertise lies in the fields of model-based assessment and management of landscape water and nutrient balance on different scales and trade-off analyses among natural resources and biodiversity with stakeholder involvement. He has extensive experiences in participating in national and internatioal projects, both as partner and co-ordinator. Currently he and his team are co-ordinating the EU Horizon2020 project OPTAIN that develops strategies to retain and re-use water and nutrients in small agricultural catchments across different biogeographical regions in Europe.
